Two days of Rhythm Workshops! TaKeTiNa and Taiko Back in Grafton!
You asked and we listened! We are bringing Taiko and TaKeTiNa back to Grafton again, each one an hour longer and on two consecutive days! Location for TaKeTiNa will be at the Grafton UU Meetinghouse/Church, 3 Grafton Common, Grafton. Location for Taiko will be at Henry Agri's Kenpo Karate Studio, 82 Worcester Street, North Grafton (Koopman's Lumber Plaza).
On Saturday, March 30, 2012 from 1pm - 5:30pm we'll have our TaKeTiNa workshop, we'll have a half hour break in the middle of the workshop. The Taiko workshop will be held Sunday April 1, 2012 from 11am to 4pm with a one hour break for lunch. Join us for one or both!
TaKeTiNa is a process for activating human and musical potential through rhythm which goes hand in hand with personal development. It is used worldwide in universities and clinics in therapeutic practices, drama schools, and pain therapy and management. By leading the attendees through a process of using our bodies in a rhythmic way, integrating the left and right sides of our bodies and brain, we increase both our coordination and our focus, bringing ourselves to a meditative place. There is no limit for the number of students.
Register for TaKeTiNa Workshop on March 31 from 1:00-5:30 ($65)
This Taiko workshop is an opportunity for you to get a taste of what it is like to be a Japanese Taiko drummer. No experience necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm. Taiko is a physical experience, so please wear loose and comfortable clothing and be prepared to take your shoes off when on the mat! Limit of 14 due to equipment availability. We need a minimum of 8 to hold the workshop.
Register for Taiko Workshop on April 1st from 11:00-4:00 ($65)
Please sign up as soon as possible as it is a first come first serve basis!
We welcome Elaine Fong as our leader and teacher for the day.

I offer private and group lessons, classes and workshops in North Grafton, MA, at varying times throughout the year. Classes are primarily for drummers who play skin drums, such as djembes, ashikos and dununs.
"THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am so happy that I have discovered you as a teacher! It has helped turn drumming into something that I know I can become really, really good at and not just a hack. You are BY FAR one the best teachers on the djembe that I have had and I have worked with a number of folks (privately and in workshops) to develop a decent slap and they've all said "it will come and you just have to keep working at it".....which I know is true, but doesn't go far enough! You have a wonderful eye and ear and you have been able to clearly break it down. And seeing that you also improved other student's sound just made it ever more clear that you clearly have a wonderful gift for teaching! Many, Many Thanks!" - Otha Day, whose website is: Drum to the Beat
One-night Workshops - These 2-hour workshops are offered one Friday night a month (usually the fourth or last Friday). We will be focusing on technique (learning and having fun with it) and rhythms.
Our last one was a great evening of learning, challenging ourselves and finally pulling together with a terrific jam of the full rhythm. What a great feeling to have it all come together!
The next one is:
Date TBA
7:00 - 9:00 pm
Cost $25
We'll start off the workshop with a review or introduction of technique for anyone who needs it. Then we'll be working on a fun rhythm created by Mamady Keita called Kanin!. This rhythm is made up of 2 hand drum parts, 3 bass drum parts (kenkeni, sangban and doundounba), and a solo line that hopefully we will have time for. It's a really fun one! Come and experience the fun and excitement of learning to drum together in a group! Extra drums are available if you don't have one!
